Keep in mind that cheap web hosting may or may not have the best support, you get what you pay for does apply at times, but the do-it-yourself web designer usually won't need much support.
As you can see the storage wars are resulting in impractical storage limits that benefit all of us greatly. Can you really store 1500 gigabytes? Technically yes. You are essentially getting unlimited web hosting storage space and web hosting bandwidth.
IPower

I've been using Ipower and the only negative really is they are not the fastest in terms of connect speed, but compare well with other "unlimited" storage solutions.
Unlimited domain hosting, integrated registrar and hosting control panel (Tucows reseller, you can also login at Tucows, for each domain), a host of open source options, tons of space, email tools, really a do everything solution.
Uses VDeck Control Panel so for CPanel fans this is not for you. They also offer Windows hosting.
Support is good either via chat, phone or email and is the traditional Indian team so common now.
This is the host I use personally and can highly recommend if you do not require very fast transfer speeds. With the ubiquitous high bandwidth internet connections today this is a non-issue for all practical purposes.

HostMonster
Unlimited Web Hosting Storage
Haven't tried them yet but was able to chat at length with sales and I dig their custom interpretation of the standard cpanel. The unlimited domains are really subdomains with custom DNS settings, invisible to search engines and acceptable use. Also supports Postini, the third party spam filter firm. Will advise.
HostGator
Seriously, a lot of web hosting disk drive storage for the money. As cheap a web hosting as Ipowerweb but not as much storage. Haven't used 'em. Cpanel driven.

GoDaddy
The drop in space is pretty dramatic. GoDaddy is one of the entrepreneurial success stories of web businesses and they are solid.
10 GB of Cheap Web Hosting
I've used GoDaddy Domain Name Registration through a reseller for years with great success and satisfaction. As for GoDaddy Web Hosting, a bit of a dog, but again, gets the job done. Their Control Panel is bizarre at best but always navigable in the end.
If you want one of the biggest brands GoDaddy is cool.
Network Solutions
Well, no quick rundown of cheap web hosting would be complete without Network Solutions.
The great original domain registrar still pricing as if we are in the dark ages for domain registration (domains costs come down with hosting and other products purchased, always ask) but a solid entry.
I have one client who uses this host and I must say the support is awesome. This is an example of "you get what you pay for". I suspect that some of the cheaper hosts must allocate more funds to server maintenance as a percentage of overall budgets so support can suffer.
Recommendation
IPower is My Recommendation. I can't honestly say I prefer GoDaddy or Network Solutions and haven't used HostMonster or HostGator. In terms of control freak user tools you definitely want CPanel or VDeck and not the funky limited control panels found at both GoDaddy and Network Solutions.
Bottom line for the do-it-yourselfer, Go For IPower...
